How It's Made: Episode 1 - The Wobbly Heart

You keep asking how I make them.

Most people see the finished piece — but what happens before that? In my workshop, it's just me, some raw copper pipe, trusty plumbing tools, and a process I've been perfecting for years.

New Series: "How It's Made"

I'm pulling back the curtain to show you exactly how each piece gets made. No fancy equipment. No industrial machinery. Just old-school craftsmanship that turns ordinary copper pipe into something extraordinary.

The Process (Spoiler: It's More Intricate Than You Think)

Step 1: The Cut

Everything starts with precision. I measure and cut each length of copper by hand — because even a few millimeters off means your heart won't be perfect.

Step 2: The Bend

Here's where my plumbing background comes in handy. Using pipe benders, I bend each piece 180 degrees to create the curves that'll become your heart. It's all about the angle — too sharp and it looks harsh, too gentle and it loses its impact.

Step 3: The Secret Weapon

Before any personalisation happens, I slide a metal rod inside the pipe. This is the game-changer that lets me hammer and engrave your message without crushing the delicate copper. It's a technique I learned through years of trial (and quite a few errors).

Step 4: Making It Yours

This is where your heart becomes your heart. Whether it's names, dates, or that special message, each letter gets carefully worked into the copper. If you've ordered wire writing, this is where those delicate details get added — the kind of finishing touches that make people lean in for a closer look.

Step 5: The Wobbly Stem

That signature "wobbly" stem everyone loves? That's not an accident. I use the pipe benders again to create those organic, hand-forged curves that make each piece feel alive and unique. No two stems are ever identical.

Step 6: The Final Touch

A careful polish brings out that warm copper glow, then everything gets spray lacquered to protect against the elements. Your heart will look as stunning in five years as it does the day it arrives.

I'm rubbish at filming, but I've finally captured the full process. You'll never look at your Wobbly Heart the same way again - honestly, thank you for being interested enough to want to see behind the scenes.
